Link Building and Digital PR for Small Businesses
A link is another website saying "this business is worth visiting." Google counts those votes, and the sites with the most trusted ones tend to rank above the sites with fewer. Of the few ranking factors anyone can measure, links stay near the top. They are also the part of SEO that scammers target hardest, which makes it the part where a careful agency matters most.
KORB Digital is a full digital services studio based in Logan, Utah, serving small businesses across Utah and beyond. Our approach to links is short: earn them from real places for real reasons, slowly, and report every one.
What link building and digital PR mean here
Link building is the steady work of getting links from relevant sites: local organizations, trade groups, suppliers, directories that real customers use and other businesses that have reason to mention you.
Digital PR is the more public side. You give a reporter, blogger or local organization something worth covering, such as a useful local data point, a seasonal tip, an event or a news item, and they cover it and link to you.
A test we apply to every link: would this link exist if search engines did not? A chamber of commerce member page, a supplier's "where to buy" list, a local news story and a sponsor thank-you page all pass. A paid guest post on an unrelated blog does not.
Link Building & PR in about a minute
Who it is for
- Businesses with a solid website and profile that still sit behind competitors with more links.
- Owners whose agency earlier built links from paid networks, and who want a safe clean-up.
- Companies with a good story or real expertise and no one telling it.
- New sites with few or no links.
- Trades, shops and professionals in Utah markets where a handful of strong local links separate page one from page three.
It is a poor fit for a site with indexing, speed or content problems. Fix those first, because links pointing at a broken page are wasted. We say so in the free review.
What is included
1. A link check
We pull your backlink profile in Ahrefs and read it honestly: how many sites link to you, which are real, which are weak, and what anchor text they use. We look at the same data for the three businesses ranking ahead of you. Two things matter most: where they have links you do not, and whether any links to your site could harm it.
2. Clean-up of risky links
If an earlier agency built keyword-rich anchor links, bought guest posts or used a private blog network, we find them. Google's spam policies name these, and practitioners who track penalized local sites report that most share keyword-anchor patterns, with even about twenty such links enough to cause trouble. We ask sites to remove the worst ones and document the rest. We do not promise a recovery, and nobody honest does.
3. The core local listings
We claim and tidy the places that count for a local business: your Google Business Profile, Bing Places, Yelp, Facebook, the Better Business Bureau and the trade directories that suit your industry, such as Angi, Houzz or HomeAdvisor for home services. Your name, phone number and services match on all of them. AI tools such as ChatGPT and Google's AI answers lean on these sources, so this work does double duty. For a home-based business, we skip any listing that would publish your home address.
4. Local links, one at a time
This is the slow, useful part. We build a target list from your actual network:
- the local chamber of commerce and business associations;
- trade and professional groups in your industry;
- suppliers and manufacturers you buy from, who often have "find an installer" pages;
- builders, planners, property managers or partners you work for;
- community sponsorships, school and club pages, and local events;
- real estate and HOA pages where your service fits;
- local news and community sites.
We write the outreach, in your voice, to a named person with a specific reason. A good local link usually takes a few emails and a phone call.
5. Useful things worth linking to
People link to what helps them. We help you create a small number of link-worthy pages: a local cost guide with real figures, a seasonal checklist, a plain explanation of a local rule, original photos or a short dataset from your own jobs. Local topics work well because local reporters and organizations need them. One reported case saw a trade's timely local posts earn a followed link from a national newspaper with no outreach. Your results will not look like that, but the principle holds.
6. Digital PR, a few times a year
For a business with a real story, we plan a small campaign each quarter: pick a question your customers ask, gather the facts or numbers, find the 20 to 30 local and trade reporters who covered the topic in the past year, send a short pitch and follow up once after three to five days. We only pitch real news. Press releases about nothing do not help, and Google's rules now cover manipulation as well.
7. Reporting
Each month you see every new link: who it is from, what page it points to, how we got it and whether it passes value. We track referring domains over time and note any links that disappeared.
What we do not do
- We do not buy links, trade links, or use private blog networks.
- We do not run mass directory submissions or "starter backlink packages." Posts on free blog platforms, social profiles and nofollow directories pass almost nothing.
- We do not use keyword-stuffed anchor text. Most of your links should say your business name or a plain description.
- We do not ask you to publish self-made "best of" lists to get cited. Research shows they can win an AI mention briefly and then drop away.
- We do not use paid placements without the sponsored tag that Google requires.
How we work with you
The first step is a look at your current links and your closest competitors, with a short list of the most promising local targets. If you hire us, we agree on a monthly number of outreach contacts and content pieces, you approve the pitch before it goes out, and we send every result to you. Everything we create belongs to you.
Timeline and what to expect
Links are the slowest part of SEO. A first set of directory and association links can appear within a month or two. Relationship links and press take three to six months, and the effect on rankings shows up gradually. SEO usually takes four months to a year to show a benefit, and the page in the number one spot on Google is about five years old on average, so links built today are an investment. We report links earned each month, and we do not claim a ranking move until Search Console shows it.
What it costs
Link building and digital PR work are part of our Scale plan (see the plans), alongside local SEO, AI search visibility and the monthly lead report. For a one-time project, such as a clean-up of risky links or a local-listings pass, we give a fixed quote after the free review.
Where we work
We are in Logan, Utah, and know the Cache Valley chamber, trade and community network best. For clients elsewhere in Utah or the country, we build the target list for your own area. The work is online.
Start with a link check
Send us your website address. We will look at your links next to the businesses ahead of you and tell you whether links are what is holding you back, or whether something else should come first.

Questions people ask
It is the work of getting other websites to link to yours. Google treats links from trusted, relevant sites as a sign that your business is real and well regarded, so they affect how you rank, especially in the regular results under the map.
Never. Google's spam policies call paid links without a sponsored tag, keyword-stuffed anchor text and low-quality directories link spam. Sites that built links that way lost most of their traffic in the 2025 core update and have not recovered.
Fewer than you think, from better places. For a local business, ten links from real local organizations and trade sites often do more than two hundred from random directories. We look at what the businesses ahead of you have and aim for what closes the gap.
With local relationships and useful content: the chamber, trade associations, suppliers and manufacturers, sponsorships, community groups, local reporters and original information that other people want to cite.
Slowly. A first batch of local links can land in the first two or three months. News coverage depends on timing. Plan on three to six months before you judge the effect.
No. Editors and organizations decide whether to link, and Google decides how to rank. We guarantee the method and the reporting.
Less than your profile, reviews and website content do. Links help your regular organic results more. Ahrefs found links matter most for local queries among the segments it studied, and practitioners find the map pack responds more to profile and on-site signals.
